We have been hatching our pure breed chicks over the last few months and now have many hundreds of them growing on.  Its been a good year for fertility and our new breeds, the Welsummer bantams and Buff Plymouth Rock bantams have hatched exceptionally well.  The Cream Legbars and French Wheaten Marans have also produced well, but as always the Silver Laced Wyandottes have not laid that well, then they keep going broody which is very frustrating.  We have also had some stunning new bantams to sell which have gone very well - I particularly love the Silver Spangled Hamburghs and Silver Campines - both are really striking looking birds.

The other addition to the household has been a litter of working Cocker Spaniel puppies bred from my son's dog Connie.  Customers may have seen them when they all come up to the shop be socialised, meet strange people and the chickens.  They are now going to their new homes and we really miss them, but it's nice to be able to walk around the house without tripping over them.

Posh Pancakes have been here most Saturdays serving customers with lovely pancakes and tea's and coffee, they have been a real hit, especially on very busy days when there has been a bit of a wait to be served (sorry!).  We also now have the lovely Megan helping out on Saturdays and in school holidays, Megan has chickens at home and has started here this week, so if you are visiting you may well meet her - she is lovely with both the customers and the chickens.

Plans for this month are extending our growers area, with around 500+ young pure breeds and hybrid chicks currently here, plus more chicks hatching all the time, we need more housing and runs.  Shaun is very busy completing a Shepherds Hut to be delivered to the Peak District, so he has not had time to do any building work for me.  He then has another hut to take to Spain, so I'm hoping to take a couple of days off to help him deliver it and I think that will have to also be our holiday for this year!
